Life is like a box of chocolates, but does it have to be?
Most of us probably remember the bus stop scene in the movie Forest Gump released back in the early nineties where Forest stated that his Momma always said that “life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are gonna get”. Are you currently in a position in your life where that is the case and you are not sure what you are gonna get? Or are you going through life without clear direction or a plan and wondering what is next for you?
Life can be just like a box of chocolates if we choose not to make any plans for our future. Years ago, before I made the decision to take control of my professional career I was literally going through life waiting to see what was next for me rather than make deliberate plans to make things happen for myself. At that time, I believed everything was going ok and I didn’t realize I had any say in what happened to me. What I begin to realize is that if I did not control my own destiny someone else would attempt to make plans for me regardless of what was best for me and my family.
Until I made deliberate plans to control my future I had no idea what was in store for me, in fact I didn’t know what I was gonna get. Now that I have made plans I can see a brighter future and I am pretty sure I know what I am gonna get. No longer are the days when I sit back and hope for the best, now I actually know what is in store for me and because of this realization I have made plans that will allow me to move forward in life.
Are you sitting on the sidelines with a box of chocolates waiting to see what you are gonna get? I encourage you to take control of your life so that you know exactly what you are gonna get. Evaluate where you are today and where you want to go in the near future, make a plan to get where you want to be and follow through with that plan. Continue reaching for the stars and you will be successful, it will not be a surprise, but rather the anticipated rewards from a deliberately developed plan.
Is your life like a box of chocolates? Or do you know what you are gonna get?
